This year, with the royal wedding, Easter and the early May Bank Holiday (which boasts the most boring holiday name since the late May Bank Holiday) in the UK we had back to back 4-day weekends. With perfect timing, our great friends, Jimmy and Sara visited.

Lock Awe from Castle Kilchurn |
For the first part of their whirlwind tour, we flew to Glasgow, Scotland, rented a car and headed into the highlands. I've been to Edinburgh before and it's magical. But the highlands of Scotland are something different.

Jimmy and Sara @ Inveraray |
The terrain is rugged and beautiful, filled with lakes, brackish fjords and small villages. The topography is such that highways and housing developments have been kept at bay...as have crowds of people. The latter could be because the weather is crap, but we lucked out and had a fair bit of sun and warmth.

Castle Kilchurn
|
We based ourselves largely in Oban, a fishing and ferry town on the edge of the west coast.
From there we explored ruins of castles, old villages and tasty local beer and food. I was impressed with how friendly the locals were and you can't beat a
good Scottish accent.

A beer in Oban |
After coming back to London and enduring a 3 day work week of idea length, we headed to La Rochelle, France. I'll put up a post about that soon.

I hope everyone reading this is doing well! If you're in the PacNW, hopefully the rainiest of Springs is starting to let up.
